So it would appear that television uber-producer Ryan Murphy went to the folks at ABC Television and pitched them on the idea of combining The Love Boat with ER, which is why we are featuring the cast of Doctor Odyssey at the series premiere. Personally, we would have wanted to call it The Sick Boat, but that’s why Ryan Murphy is a television uber-producer and we are merely popular bloggers. Anyway, let’s assess.
Sure. Okay. They all dressed well for the occasion. We almost said “suspiciously well,” but that’s only because we can’t stop rolling our eyes at the premise of this show, about “a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder.” We’ll try to put aside our cynicism long enough to be fair in our assessments, but we can’t promise anything.
Joshua Jackson
It seems like an overly formal style to go tieless and be paired with brown brogues. Still, it’s a gorgeous suit. We don’t love that color for him, although it looks like he’s dressing for the backdrop and logo.
Phillipa Soo
Similarly, it feels like she’s wearing a dress that calls for a little more formality in the styling. We figure once you commit to a train, you should probably also commit to sporting the kind of accessories a train calls for. Brown shoes and virtually no jewelry? Not the way we’d have gone here. She looks fine, of course.
Don Johnson
He’s the only one who feels like he hit the exact style spot he was supposed to; neither too formal nor too casual. He’s an old TV vet, so he knows about these things. Incidentally, he looks great. Whoever’s doing his facial work earned their money.
Sean Teale
Yet another example of an outfit that feels too formal and isn’t styled as well as it could be. Having said that, we love this look. It’s got just enough of a nautical feel to be on point without being too costumey about it.
