If there are Andra Day red carpet photographs posted by our photo agency, you can bet we’re going to post them ourselves, because the lady never fails to bring a sense of theatricality to her glamour. In other words, she knows that the first rule of any red carpet outfit is to give you something to look at. For the premiere of Exhibiting Forgiveness, she completely sidestepped the current trend for minimalist neutrals. You should probably prepare for the scrolldown, because the bottom half of this ensemble is perhaps not going to be what you expect based on the above thumbnail.

We could’ve loved this. The colors look amazing on her and we like the way the design combines old-school womenswear elements with a much more modern and sexy style. We even think the leather gloves are a great way to lend it an edge. But we’re not feeling the crop top, especially from the back, where it looks like a skirt. The skirt itself is interesting, but it’s clearly too small on her and her hand placement is giving the impression she’s not feeling too confident in it. Basically, we think the green portion should be a full strapless gown and the top should function more like a capelet. And it should all fit, correctly, of course.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Tarrell (Holland) is an admired American painter who lives with his wife, singer Aisha (Day), and their young son, Jermaine. Tarrell’s artwork excavates beauty from the anguish of his youth, keeping past wounds at bay. His path to success is derailed by an unexpected visit from his estranged father, La’Ron (Jelks), a conscience-stricken man desperate to reconcile.
Tarrell’s mother, Joyce (Ellis-Taylor) a pious woman with a profound and joyful spirituality, hopes that Tarrell can open his heart to forgiveness, giving them all another chance at being a family. Tarrell and La’Ron learn that forgetting might be a greater challenge than forgiving in this raw and deeply moving film.
