Dennis Quaid and Penelope Ann Miller portray Ronald and Nancy Reagan (respectively) in the upcoming biopic Reagan, which looks extremely terrible, judging by the trailer (below). Kind of a shame, because this is pretty good casting and the Reagan years are overdue for a dramatic reassessment. Anyway, here they are, pretty much doing the theme-dressing thing at the LA premiere (in the sense that she’s in Nancy red and he’s sporting too much hair dye).
In some ways, it’s all a little annoyingly cosplay-ish. We suppose we’re grateful he’s not wearing a cowboy hat, although we don’t get the point of wearing a tuxedo with an open shirt. Her dress is perfectly fine and looks lovely on her. It’s not the freshest design in the world, but the vague ’80s-esque touches might just be the point. The sandals are tacky, though. We’re all for an interesting brooch placement, but we’re not convinced this deployment works.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
From dusty small-town roots, to the glitter of Hollywood, and then on to commanding the world stage, REAGAN is a cinematic journey of overcoming the odds. Told through the voice of Viktor Petrovich, a former KGB agent who followed Reagan’s ascent, REAGAN captures the indomitable spirit of the American dream. Starring Dennis Quaid, prepare to be moved and inspired as REAGAN comes to life on August 30, 2024.
