Yesterday, we made the case that Blake Lively doesn’t concern herself too much with matters of chicness and style. She takes a hot girl’s approach to fashion, thinks it’s all a hoot because she can make practically anything work, and dresses instead to get attention. We think that’s all still quite true, but we can’t get mad at a gal who enjoys delving into a little bit of fashion history. At the It Ends With Us world premiere in New York, the star wore an archival Versace dress originally worn by Britney Spears in 2002.

We appreciate it when any star opts to skip being a brand spokesperson by wearing the latest items from the hottest collections and instead opts to model a little bit of history. It’s a deliberate homage, partially because Spears’ 2003 single “Everytime” is on the soundtrack. Having said all that we don’t love the design. Spears in 2003 could get away with the sparkly, chintzy stuff, but it doesn’t suit Lively as well and it’s clearly too short for her.
