Time to wrap up our 2024 Met Gala coverage, wouldn’t you say? It’s been a steady week of hardcore opinionating around here, but we’re starting to feel sorry for those celebrities who’ve had to wait so long to receive our loving judgment. Let’s help them out!
Cardi B in Windowsen

Loved the turban and jewelry, but we were pretty under-impressed with the design, which was really just for staging and posing. She eventually walked right out of that circle of fabric.
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky in Tom Ford

We reiterate what we tweeted that night: Of all the things the two of you could choose to wear to the Met Gala, you dullards chose this. He’s a co-host! Put some effort in!
Eiza González in Del Core

Very pretty, but the necklace doesn’t go.
Elizabeth Debicki in Dior

It’s an underwhelming design in a tricky color that doesn’t photograph well. It’s not a disaster, but it’s not a triumph either.
Emma Chamberlain in Jean Paul Gaultier

Darkly fabulous. The styling works well with it.
Greta Lee in Loewe

Meh. Just a sheer tube.
Gwendoline Christie in Maison Margiela

While everything about the design is pretty basic, the styling and her own ability to work it are creating a moment. This is what we mean when we say the Met Gala calls for theatricality. It doesn’t so much mean clown clothes as it does using fashion to create a specific mood, character or theme. She gets it.
Hari Nef in H&M

It’s very pretty and a great bit of branding for H&M.
Jessica Biel in Tamara Ralph

Hate it. The color is garish and the design just looks like a pile of fabric.
Jodie Turner-Smith in Burberry

It’s pretty, but it’s extremely bridal and a bit of a disappointment. She serves up jaw-dropping looks on the regular. This was not the night to dial it back.
Keke Palmer in Marc Jacobs

This one’s a stunner. Love that insane pony tail.
Kendall Jenner in Givenchy Couture

We loathe that “nude’ band around the waist, but credit to her for pulling a really interesting and off-the-beaten-path design. It wasn’t outrageous or over the top, but it’s unlike any other dress there.
Kieran Culkin (in KidSuper) and Jazz Charton (in Nina Ricci)

His suit is cute, even if it is in desperate need of a better fitting, and we love the pink loafers, even if they are a little too casual for the event. Her dress is okay, but those beach sandals are awful with it.
Kylie Minogue in Diesel

That is a hideously unflattering effect.
Lea Michele in Rodarte

The color’s ugly and the shower scrub is obnoxious.
Lily James in Erdem

It’s drab, wrinkled and makes her look like she’s covered in bugs.
Mindy Kaling in Gaurav Gupta Couture

It’s giving Dune, but the gorgeous sculptural quality is really eye-catching.
Naomi Campbell in Burberry

Even she seems somewhat underimpressed with this effort. It looks great on her, though. Then again, everything does.
Phoebe Dynevor in Victoria Beckham

Enh. Kind of pretty, we guess.
Rita Ora and Taika Waititi in Marni

Fashion aside, they just look like enormous d-bags. That’s more brown leather than any human can bear and her nude bodysuit is heinous.
Sarah Paulson in Prada

Sarah, it may anger you to hear this coming from us, but we’re sorry to inform you that your dress is dumb and you look like you got roped into some horrifying bridal shower party game.
Serena Williams in Atelier Prabal Gurung

As designs go, it’s extremely unimpressive. All of the impact is in the textile and the volume.
Storm Reid in Coach

The skirt has possibilities but that bustier does nothing for it and the styling is too low key.
Venus Williams in Marc Jacobs

It’s pretty, and we appreciate how well-matched the nude lining is, but it’s deeply underwhelming for the Met Gala.
