A whole truckload of stars came out for the annual amfAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival and the looks ranged from quietly understated to hellaciously tacky, which means all is right with the world. Let’s assess!
Alexander Edwards and Cher
This is almost shockingly low-key for her. We’re not mad at any of it. If the lady wants to work glitter platforms and sheer panels, she’s earned the right to do it forever. She bought him a pretty nice suit.
Andie MacDowell in Saint Laurent
It’s chic, but kind of funereal for a an amfAR gala.
Bella Thorne in Georges Hobeika
It’s a little snug in the bust, but we’re digging the disco ball realness.
Coco Rocha in Yanina Couture
See, this is why you invite models.
Colman Domingo in Givenchy
Chic and understated, even with purple shoes.
Demi Moore in Loewe
Gorgeous.
Diane Kruger in Prada
We don’t know what’s been going on with her hair lately, but she needs to start yelling at people. The dress is ugly.
Diplo
Can’t get mad at that.
Heidi Klum (in Lever Couture) and Leni Klum
We feel like, if you’re pushing your daughter forward into the spotlight to aid her modeling career, you should probably consider snagging her something that doesn’t look cheap and tacky. Heidi can work just about anything, even a skin-colored shower puff of a dress, but baby girl needs to be taking baby steps. Her dress is awful.
Karolina Kurkova in Valdrin Sahiti
Again, we thank the models for their service. This is pretty spectacular.
Kelly Rowland in Gaurav Gupta Couture
This would be great in a loud, tacky, get the party started kind of way that’s appropriate for a Cannes amfAR gala, but that top is way too small for her.
Kyle Kuzma
It’s got a summer chic vibe that looks good on him.
Michelle Rodriguez
The dress, like most of the ones she chooses, gets the job done. The makeup job does not.
Michelle Yeoh in Bottega Veneta
Stunning, but we’re not sure those shoes are the best choice. At the very least, given the hem length and the metallic, black hose might’ve been a good idea here.
Maria Bakalova in Dolce & Gabbana
It’s fine, but we tend to expect her choices to be a little less conventional.
Nick Jonas
Can’t argue with that either.
Odell Beckham Jr.
Or that. Kudos to the gentlemen who didn’t slack off for the evening.
Paris Jackson in Jean Paul Gaultier
This all appears to be as expected.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York
Super flashy for a royal, but it was ever thus with this one. It’s overembellished and the hem length is awkward. Not to be bitches, but the pedi is a little too flashy and focus-pulling.
Tyga
The proportions overwhelm him and the style makes him look like he’s working security for the event.
