When Emma Stone stepped out onto the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for the premiere of her follow-up film with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinds of Kindness, two things became instantly clear to us. They were joyous revelations, don’t worry.
The first thing that occurred to us was that she had put her somewhat goofy, often awkward Poor Things press tour style behind her. Nary a leg of mutton sleeve or faux bustle skirt in sight, we’re happy to report. Glam is apparently back on the menu in a big way, as are colors that flatter her, which is a thing to which she’s not always drawn. This looks spectacular on her. The second thing we noted is that sequins are the big trend at Cannes this year. Granted, you can always count on seeing a healthy amount of sparkle on any big-draw, buzz-generating film festival red carpet, but we’ve been seeing more than the usual number of gorgeously sequined looks lately. This is a long way of saying, “Girl, welcome back.”
