One final “IN or OUT” post for Cannes 2024, darlings! What do you say? Especially since we genuinely can’t come to a conclusion on this one. Elle Fanning wore a dress to the Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony that practically embodies all of the things we constantly implore Elle Fanning to avoid in her fashion choices. And yet?

We can’t deny it has a certain drama to it that might even be called breathtaking in some of these shots. We also can’t deny that the girl clearly loves it, which does a lot to sell it. The pleating is gorgeous and we don’t mind the semi-sheer quality because it lends it such an ethereality. On the other hand, it completely lacks the kind of contrast she desperately needs in her style choices and the print, while pretty, is more than a little bedsheety to our eyes. Given the open back and sheerness, we think a slightly less gaping neckline would have been a better design choice. And finally, we can’t get over how wrong the styling feels. That flip do is simply not the right choice for this style. We think the overall effect might be more than the sum of its parts, but we keep finding problems with its parts. You make the final call:
