We’re usually big fans of Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan’s red carpet style. When she’s at her best, the looks are impeccable, from the fit to the finishing touches. Which is why we’re a bit confused by her look for the New York screening of her new series Big Mood.

It’s not terrible. In fact, it’s quite striking, but the details just aren’t coming together like they should. It’s a very dramatic coat with an incredibly dramatic corset/belt element. We think rolling up the sleeves like she’s about to do the dishes was a genuinely terrible way to style it. Those earrings don’t go with it and they look cheap to boot. We can’t tell if the neckline is supposed to have a scalloped effect or if it’s pulling somehow. The pumps are a surprisingly dull choice. And the most puzzling of all: her makeup looks terrible. Usually, she sports a drag-perfect mug when she steps out, but she looks deathly pale. It’s possible they were trying to go a little goth with the makeup, but they didn’t hit the mark and besides, there’s nothing goth about the styling.
