One of our favorite celebrity style stories of the last few years is Florence Pugh’s evolution from tacky girl to major fashionista. We used to delight in assessing all of her terribly awful style choices back in the day, but we were even more delighted when her fashion suddenly became much more grownup and elegant. We’re not sure what prompted it, but for this year’s Oscars, your girl decided to return to Tacky Town.

To be fair, this isn’t the worst thing she’s ever worn. The hair and makeup are gorgeous and the necklace looks great with it. The design of the dress gets a little cutesy for our tastes and the color does nothing for her. The raindrop beading really works on the skirt, but it’s so overutilized on the bodice, which is already wildly overdesigned, that the effect kind of gets lost. Still, this was mild compared to what she unveiled for the after party:

She’s a gal who’ll always love a free-the-nip moment and we won’t be the prissy queens to take that away from her, but it seems to us if you’re going to go that route, you’d want a dress that has a breezy sort of sexiness to it, not some awkwardly overdesigned thing. It all looks cheap and flimsy. We have no issue with it being sheer. It’s the fact that it’s so boring that causes it to fail.
