We rarely feature documentary premiere red carpets and we can’t even fall back on the explanation that these two made such fascinating fashion choices that we simply had to give them the spotlight treatment. No, our reason for featuring Jason Momoa and his co-narrator Laura Dern at the premiere of their film Common Ground in Los Angeles couldn’t be simpler or more direct.

It’s because they’re Jason Momoa and Laura Dern, standing together like pals. How often do you see that? They seem like an unlikely duo and yet we can’t help thinking they would be an absolute blast to hang out with. Her coat is nice, but that frock looks pretty awful. We love his yellow cardigan, and the rest of his outfit works pretty well, but we can’t sign off on those ugly shoes. Still, it’s a documentary premiere and we can’t say either of them are off-base for the venue and setting.

Common Ground is the highly anticipated sequel to the juggernaut success documentary, Kiss the Ground, which touched over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health. By fusing journalistic expose’ with deeply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement, Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.
