Some of the stars and one supporter of the utterly bizarre-looking Dicks: The Musical hit the sidewalk for a decidedly low-key premiere event (they got a SAG-AFTRA waiver to promote it). Let’s gently judge them.
Megan Mullally (in Ashish) and Nathan Lane
They look cute together. If there’s one actress who could make a believable het love interest for Nathan Lane, it would have to be her. Love the gown. She should’ve kept her signature glasses on. He looks about as dressed up as he needs to be for this event. He’s not a fashion guy or even much of a red carpet guy, so this is acceptable.
Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster
This is pretty cute and we like the color combo. We just can’t behind the proportions of that lady blouse. Maybe it would work better if he’d buttoned it, but the issue is less about that and more about the short length and billowy sleeves.
This is a minimalist “’90s Calvin Klein” take on slutty dressing and we’re not surprised it works for him. If he were here as anything but a friend and supporter, we might’ve gotten a little huffy – not about the crop top, but because it’s all so low-effort. Then again, this is clearly not a high-effort sort of event, Megan’s gown aside. He looks great but his pants need a hemming.
