Jodie Comer snagged a Tony for her work in Prima Facie and she stuck to the same low-key style she’s been working all throughout her leadup to the big night. This time, she turned to Thom Browne, who isn’t exactly known for low-key minimalism.
We’re not the biggest fans of relatively simple black dresses for public events because they don’t always photograph that well and they can look too simple at an event where the fashion can be a lot more focus-pulling. But this one really works, we think. There are just enough details (like the subtle sparkle and the structured, almost architectural aspect of the bodice to make it interesting and elegant to our eyes. The hair and makeup are also a little more clean and low-key than we’d normally like for an awards show, but the Tonys aren’t the Oscars and besides, she clearly prefers to keep her look unfussy. The only critique we have is with the earrings. The pearl one just doesn’t work for us. We also think a delicate chain necklace would’ve been a nice choice.
