There’s a new Barbie movie trailer out and yes, we are going to squeal and flap our hands over it. Just play it.
“DO YOU GUYS EVER THINK ABOUT DYING?” Oh, HONEY. Between that line and “Humans have only one ending. Ideas live forever,” we think we can all safely rest assured that director Greta Gerwig GETS IT. It’s like she took a thousand different nomadic tribal belief systems spread out among generations of children and codified them into a Holy Book. This movie looks dumb, silly, hilarious, critical of its subject matter and at the same time reverential toward it. If she really manages to strike that balance the way these trailers seem to indicate, she may just have pulled off a masterpiece.
And Ryan Gosling deserves an Oscar nomination, dammit.
