2023 Cannes Film Festival: Brie Larson in Chanel

A Cannes jury member’s posing duties are never done, which means any actress taking up the position is automatically expected to have a month’s worth of high-impact fashion looks to wear. Brie Larson, bless her heart, is not, shall we say, a lady who’s always shown the best style instincts and we fear, looking over these inaugural attempts for the week, that the pressure may have broken her.

Admittedly, this is sort of fun. We didn’t react well to it at first glance, but it’s growing on us somewhat. We can’t put our finger on it, but it feels a little off for the occasion. Granted, the Cannes Film Festival has a very long history of some very tacky and showy fashion, but we guess this doesn’t have that Riviera Glam feel we’d expect. We’re being nitpicky, though. Continuing in that vein, we feel like a couple of good jewelry choices would make this more interesting. We’re also not convinced on the headband.

That is one fucking ugly frock. What? You expected subtlety from us? In this economy? Look at that thing! Karl Lagerfeld is clawing at the lid of his coffin in rage! The beaded portion has possibilities, although the shape of it is terrible. That spray-painted choir robe is what really damns this design to hell. Just awful. She seems to love it.

We’re afraid she’s usually better off keeping things as simple and classic as possible. It’s a decent gown and she looks good in it. The black pumps do nothing for it and she should’ve picked a Chanel clutch instead of that Nana Bag. Love the necklace. We almost don’t mind the hair bow. Can’t wait to see what she wears next!
