Viola Davis got her vindication and we’re so damn happy for her. Regardless of whether anyone thinks she deserved a Best Actress Oscar nomination over some of the other surprise nominees this year, it had to have been an incredibly dispiriting thing to have her widely acclaimed work fail to get the recognition so many expected for her. We didn’t say this when we unpacked the controversy on our podcast, but we couldn’t help thinking how disappointed and hurt she must’ve felt by the snub. She didn’t quite get the last laugh (she’s been very clear about how much she wants that Best Actress trophy), but she managed a major career milestone in its stead. Your woman Viola is now an EGOT; only the third black woman to achieve that high honor (Whoopi and Jennifer Hudson being the other two). You know what else she managed to snag? A killer frock:
We’re still not fringe lovers, but even we have to admit that it’s really working here. Maybe it’s the color-blocking that mitigates it for us. All we know is that she looks spectacular. Yes, we see the fringe dangling from the neckline and yes, it’s kind of terrible, but we’re pretending not to notice.
