Since we’ve had more than our share of opinions about both HBO’s House of the Dragon and Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, OF COURSE we’re going to sit down and compare the two, silly! We recap the third episode of the Targaeryen family drama before launching into a full breakdown of how both shows differ, the ways in which each show is forcing comparisons to the other, the philosophical differences that underline the works of George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien, and why the shows can be considered similar in ways that might seem surprising. One of them isn’t as dark as you think and the other one is way more nuanced than folks often assume.
