Look, if there’s one thing we hate to do it’s use an over-used phrase long past its sell-by date, but we have no choice here. We simply must YAAAAS QUEEEEEN this as loudly and vociferously as two homosexuals can.
Sure, it’s a little on-theme if not outright cosplay, but there’s nothing wrong with bringing a little theatricality to the red carpet, especially when you’re promoting a high fantasy with elaborate costume design. That’s something the cast of House of the Dragon didn’t quite grasp in the runup to their premiere, but the cast of The Rings of Power are really bringing it. This is a one-time-only deal, however. This dress has its charms as a promotional tool, but as a design, it gets a little precious. The bodice is indistinguishable from a figure skater’s costume, for instance. If someone had worn this to, say the VMAs, we probably would be a little more critical of the look, but if the new Tolkien lady wants to come to her premiere dressed like she’s at the Sindar Prom, who are we to argue with the choice?
