After an awards season style that had her going in all sorts of directions, Belfast and Outlander star Caitriona Balfe took a turn toward the minimal and conservative for the night. In that way, she was acting much like an Oscar nominee would, since so many of the Oscar-nominated actresses did the same thing.

It’s a little Morticia and a little Joan Crawford, a combination that happens to suit her really well. It’s very dignified, but also dramatic. Love the boldness of those earrings, which help counter the slightly low-key hair style.

This feels a little more conventionally Hollywood, which is interesting if only because she attended both of these events on the same night in London (the CCAs had an outpost event there for the BAFTA crowd). She knew to switch things up for the American event. This all works well, but we’d like it so much more if it had some shimmer to it or came in a richer color.
