We wish we could convey to you the sounds that escaped from us involuntarily when we saw Lupita hit the Oscars red carpet last night. Something between a gurgle, a yelp, and a cry of joy. We’d like to say you have no idea how much we’ve missed seeing her on A-list red carpets, but if you’ve read us for any length of time, you probably know. She’ll always be one of our first-name-only all-timers. Tilda. Cate. Lupita.
Having said all that, we suspect there’s not gonna be universal love for her gown. Prada can be tricky and we don’t really consider it among the best brands for her style strengths. Like so much of the house’s output, this is wildly overdesigned. We love a gal who can work a sequin or a paillette like a champ, but those tinsel-looking things cheapen the design and come off a little hard to work – even for a red carpet queen like her. Still, it’s just SUCH a thrill seeing her work all that sparkle topped by another amazing do. Despite our quibbles with the design, we think she looks amazing.
