A swerve from the lady dancer! We predicted that she’d do what she’d been doing throughout awards season and wear a gown that showed off her legs, but West Side Story star and Best Supporting Actress winner Ariana DeBose decided to represent as a queer girl making Oscar history and show up in pants instead.
We just wish we could say we loved it. She’s worn pants and crop tops and bright red ensembles plenty of times before, so this shouldn’t have been such a surprise to us. The pants are pretty fabulous and we love the drama provided by the cape. It’s the top that lets the whole look down. It looks too casual, we don’t like the shape of the bustline, and we’ve never liked crop tops that are just barely cropped because they always wind up looking like a fit mistake. Believe it or not, we think we would have liked this more with a bralette or a more severely cropped top. Still, it’s hard to argue with this level of exuberance and delight. She’s positively glowing.
