We were going to put this one up to a vote, but we figured that might be a little mean. After attending the BAFTAs in a classic Hollywood siren kind of gown courtesy of Ralph Lauren, House of Gucci star Lady Gaga changed outfits and headed to the London red carpet for the Critics Choice Awards that same night, in decidedly different style of gown.
Perhaps you noticed that we didn’t mention the lack of bust support in her Ralph Lauren gown. The reason for that comes down to the simple idea of what the wearer is trying to say and what the dress is trying to do. Some dresses and gowns really do call for a bra or other form of uplift action, but it seemed clear to us – and this dress sure as hell confirms it – that the bralessness was a deliberate choice meant to make a statement or project an image. Steffi’s feeling the need to be a Natural Woman at the moment and we think that’s perfectly fine. However, while we think it worked well with the Ralph Lauren design, it looks completely terrible here. It looks like there are two velvet oven mitts on her boobs. We don’t think the yellow satin does anything for her, but it’s made worse by the addition of black lace, black velvet and black sequined trim as accompanying elements. It’s just a badly designed look that seems almost tailor made not to flatter her.
