This is what we in the bitchery bizz like to call “course-correcting.” After a rather disappointing Chanel showing for a photo call yesterday (one that left us wondering if the brand is really suited to her), Penélope Cruz stepped out onto the red carpet for the world premiere of Parallel Mothers at the Venice Film Festival in another Chanel. Except this time…
It turned out to be a stunner.
We’re not even a hundred percent sure we like all the trickiness of that skirt. You get to the hem and starts look hellaciously over-designed. We might even take the highly uncharacteristic-for-us position of saying that this isn’t a gown designed for scrutinizing every detail, since it works so incredibly well as a high-impact, first-impression sort of look. We can’t fully commit to that argument because Haute Couture is, by definition, about the details. All we know is this: we care so much less about the details that we don’t like because the overall effect is so flawless and unforgettable. The hair is gorgeous, the jewelry is drop-dead stunning and the dress takes a hell of a picture. Can’t argue with a bit of this.
