If there’s one thing to say about Cynthia Erivo (and there isn’t because there are plenty of things to say about her), it’s that she does not go gentle onto that good red carpet. Miss C loves to make a huge impact. In fact, it tends to be more notable when her style choices aren’t outrageous than when they are. Even so, when it came time to wrap up our coverage of the Venice Film Festival, there was no way we were going to let this cray go by without comment.

Only you, lady. And by that we mean only you could come close to pulling this hospital gift shop balloon of a dress. We’re not generally all that big on the idea of practicality and/or comfort on the red carpet, if you’re the sort that’s willing to work a little for your fashion moments. We salute her commitment, but any dress that requires you to literally hold it up while wearing it needs to take a stunning picture and this one just doesn’t get the job done for the amount of effort involved. We’d love to know how she managed to fit this in a limo.

Those shoes are insane.

This is actually really fun. With this kind of look, the commitment isn’t so much about the difficulty level when wearing it, it’s about how willing you are to risk looking a little silly. Well, she’s never been lacking in the confidence department, so it’s no surprise that she pulls this one off, silly as it is. It makes us smile. We kinda wish she’d worn the opera gloves from the runway styling. May as well go full drag queen once you choose to wear the dress.
