Once again we must intone our most deathless piece of advice: “In order to win the Oscar, one must become the Oscar.” In Andra Day’s case, she chose to take that advice and give it a sexy spin:
She’s stunning and her hair and makeup look fantastic, but we can’t say we love the dress. As we noted before, cutouts were a surprisingly prevalent trend at this year’s Oscars. We don’t tend to love them, but we can be convinced if the rest of the look makes up for it, like Zendaya’s did. But this looks a little too “Star Trek” to us. The fabric comes off a bit too flimsy and we don’t love the draped, sort of “goddess” effect of the construction because it just looks like wrinkles to us.
