Emmy Awards 2020: Kerry Washington in Oscar de la Renta and Dolce&Gabbana

PinMiss Kerry was not going to let a little thing like a total lack of a red carpet stop her from getting her full Emmys fashion fix. In fact, she did something that we kind of assumed most attendees would do, if they opted for style choices at all. She didn’t go full formal, as an actual Emmys ceremony would have required. Instead she chose the kinds of fun, telegenic, visually interesting styles she might have opted to wear on a visit to either of the Jimmies (Fallon and Kimmel) on their shows.

Pre-ceremony, she posed in this lovely, old-school ladylike Oscar de la Renta dress. You almost never see floral prints on an awards show red carpet, which shows how she and her stylist Law Roach took good advantage of the situation. The skirt isn’t the most practical design in the world and probably wouldn’t have survived a limo ride looking as fresh as it does here. But it’s a fun look that leans into its impracticality and slight unusualness. Our only quibble is with the shoe choice, which seems kind of basic for such an exuberant design.

For the actual ceremony – which she attended in Little Fires Everwhere co-star Reese Witherspoon’s backyard – she opted for something equally as showy and off-brand for the Emmys; this sequined, body-con, beaded leopard print dress from Dolce & Gabbana. Love the jewelry, love the hair, and the dress is kind of fun and sexy, even if it is disappointing to see another star supporting D&G. Still, she looked gorgeous in both looks and appreciate the extra serving of fashion.
