This one’s a no for us. We tried to like it, mainly because the colors look great on her, but the longer we look at this frock the more we dislike the design.
We almost never have a problem with designs that highlight a wearer’s athleticism or power. And by that we mean we’ve never been the types of fashion commenters to complain about things like accentuated shoulders or dresses that don’t try to hide the wearer’s muscularity. We’ve never been ones to utter or write phrases like “It makes her look like a linebacker,” not just because we’d be hard-pressed to tell you what a linebacker is but because such phrasing presupposes that women aren’t supposed to look strong or that fashion is supposed to “correct” the bodies of women. We’re putting all this out there because we really hate that shoulder treatment. If she’d had a straight shoulder with cap sleeves, we think the shape would’ve been perfect. But these weird space commander shoulders just distract and detract. We’re also not too crazy about the overwhelming mix of textures. For such a little dress, there’s way too much going on with it. Sometimes that works with Versace. The brand is practically synonymous with “too much,” but this time, the combination of elements is overwhelming a wearer who almost never gets overwhelmed by her fashion.
Love the jewelry, though.
