A film starring Tracee Ellis Ross as a legendary pop diva? Seems like a no-brainer in these uncertain times, darlings.
Set in the dazzling world of the LA music scene comes the story of Grace Davis (Tracee Ellis Ross), a superstar whose talent, and ego, have reached unbelievable heights, and Maggie (Dakota Johnson), her overworked personal assistant. While stuck running errands, Maggie still aspires to her childhood dream of becoming a music producer. When Grace’s manager (Ice Cube) presents her with a choice that could alter the course of her career, Maggie and Grace come up with a plan that could change their lives forever.
Unfortunately, it looks awfully cheesy. Not terrible; just kind of corny. Then again, given the current situation outside, a fluffy, corny stay-at-home movie is just what everyone’s going to want right now.
If nothing else, the fashion looks to be pretty damn fabulous – although none of this truly looks like what a pop diva in her forties would wear on a press tour. You don’t see Mariah walking around in looks like this and J Lo only dresses like this when she’s promoting a film or a line of luxury goods.
But of course we’ll watch it. We’re all going to, right?
