It’s Janelle Monae in a killer tuxedo and drop-dead footwear looking absolutely stunning, darlings. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, we’ll tell you.
It’s like this: Fashion is sort of like cooking. You can find a lot of items that taste (look) great on their own, but if you throw them all into the same bowl (outfit), they’ll either cancel each other out or wind up fighting each other for dominance (clashing). In other words, the boots are stunning, the tux is impeccable. Neither of them should be seeing the other at any time unless it’s from inside a closet. Both deserve better.
We get how something like this happens. She has an innate talent at working the unworkable when it comes to fashion and this probably sounded pretty easy to pull off on paper. But they just don’t belong together in the same look, in our rarely humble opinions.
We love that she used her hair to unify the look a bit more, though. That was a fun and savvy touch.
