We’re asking for a ruling on this one, kittens. At first glance, it wouldn’t appear to be the kind of dress that inspires discussion and debate, but then again, that’s at least partially why we’re bringing it up in the first place. Consider the following take on the classic LBD:

To be fair, we tend to use LBD for those little black dresses that otherwise have very few definable or trend-inspired details; the kind of dress that becomes a years-long go-to item. This is a bit too much of-the-moment, with its puffy satin sleeves and skirt ruffle/frill. We tend to find trends toward black on the red carpet (which is escalating of late, as it tends to during awards season) a little boring and not very imaginative, cautioning lady celebs that if they absolutely must wear a black frock, at least make it an interesting one. You see where this is leading. We find it a pleasant enough sort of dress that looks good on her and seems to be of the correct formality level for an event like this one. But we put this to you, with the feeling that the above is slightly above just-okay in our assessment:

This looks cute. It’s great to see Selenis Levya – in our opinion one of the most underrated of the Orange is the New Black cast – moving on to new projects.
