Believe it or not, we wrote a paragraph here that we wound up deleting. Then we wrote another one and deleted that. Then we wrote a third and deleted that. You wouldn’t think this collection of ensembles would rate that much second-guessing, but we wonder if this quartet isn’t playing the fashion game a bit more subtly than we realized at first.

See, we thought we were going to be clever and say that this outing indicates that this cast won’t be using high fashion at the same level as, say, the Ocean’s 8 cast. But really, they’re all dressed distinctly and in pieces that make a statement. Then we thought we’d note that they didn’t coordinate all that well, but they’re all in pants, which doesn’t strike us as a coincidence. After we realized we weren’t giving them enough credit, we had to admit that they’re all doing a subtly good job of staying coordinate and unique at the same time. We think part of our problem seeing that came down to our dislike of a lot of what we’re seeing. Elizabeth’s top (THE BOW TREND MUST DIE), Naomi’s satin and Ella’s abundance of shiny, ill-fitted leather are all distracting and weird to our eyes.

But weirdly, they all come together like a team somehow. It just … works.

Also, is it us or does it feel like they’re all sort of dressing around or in response to Kristen’s style, which is the most well-established out of all of them. Hence the pants, lapels and black leather on display.
