These two kids have been putting on their best Disney-underwritten finery to promote a film everyone but us wants to see. Don’t worry. It won’t affect our bitchiness.

It’s all okay until you get to the bottom. His jacket is really cute but his high-water pants paired with kicks renders the whole look positively geriatric. Her matchy suit and shirt aren’t the most exciting outfit in the world, but this is a photo call and she looks more than presentable. But those shoes don’t go at all.

She is serving us high-fashion Jasmine. Of course it works. In fact, if’s a bit of a no-brainer. Disney promo style – especially with regard to their most iconic intellectual properties – is corporate-basic in a lot of ways. She looks fine. She looks on point. And just as she’s serving us Jasmine undertones, he’s in a paisley velour tracksuit/conventional suit hybrid with a pair of giant kicks. The sort of visual and class-based mismatch of their characters is playing out subtly on the red carpet. This is not a man who doesn’t want to put the work in. But in his case, the work is asking him to stay largely in character.

Even here, there’s a sort of built-in formal mismatch. She’s in full-on romantic princess mode; not wearing it on her sleeve in the metaphorical sense but on her skirt in the literal one. His outfit renders him youthful, rogue-ish and more casual in comparison. It’s all rather cleverly done. We love her dress, if for no other reason than the color is unusual for the red carpet. And we LOVE his look head to toe -literally. From his fabulour hair to his fabulous shoes.
