The last couple promo go-rounds from this cast had some fairly bad fashion going on, so it’s nice to see a little course-correcting for the L.A. premiere. Bring your glamour, ladies.
Issa Rae in Balmain
LOVE this dress on her. The shape is just odd enough to be interesting but not so weird as to be off-putting or distracting. The simplicity of the rest of the design really works with it and we are gagging over that silver belt, which looks amazing on her. The hair is fun, but we’re not convinced it works well with the dress. A streamlining of visual elements serves the silhouette well, which means those braids are kind of distracting.
Marsai Martin in Pamella Roland
LOVE the hair and makeup. The dress? Well… it’s a pretty color. And she can make the somewhat goofy shape of the skirt work for her, but we don’t love the design all that much. If the whole skirt stopped above the knee instead of just that one area (which makes it look like stage curtains), this would be perfect.
Regina Hall in Ralph & Russo
We didn’t expect to love this one at all because that neckline/collar sitch is just a little awkward and we tend to have a kneejerk reaction to muddy, inscrutable prints on a red carpet. Red carpet prints should be bold and photogenic. Even so, the longer we looked at this, the more we like it. We wish the print was a little clearer, but we really like the sort of mother-of-pearl effect of the finish. And the shape looks fantastic on her – especially from the back.
