It’s about time we put a style spotlight on this gal, who’s been serving up her particular brand of punk-goth-high-fashion Rosemary’s Baby realness ever since Bohemian Rhapsody dropped and all the way up to through awards season. Her look is aggressively risk-taking and boldly statement-making. We love it. Even if it’s all on the twee side of things, it’s got an underlying edge that keeps it fun.

This dress is like a Michelle Williams go-to on steroids, except we think the hair and makeup take it to a more rock-and-roll place rather than a preciously high-fashion one.

Same effect here, where the styling turns a slightly edgy high-fashion look into something a little harder and fresher. She plays with traditionally feminine elements like bows and lace and cute little collars, but there’s usually some sort of twist or exaggeration of the form in the design and it’s always topped off with this mod-punk sort of styling. It’s like some girl showed up at a Rocky Horror Picture Show  midnight movie in Chanel.

We love it. No, we’re not crazy. There’s just so much sameness on the celebrity red carpet that any time someone comes along with a fresh twist or a look no one’s seen put together quite that way, it’s more fun to look at. The dress is arguably kind of ugly, but she’s part of a trend of celebrity women who aren’t dressing demurely or traditionally on the red carpet (think Sarah Paulson) but who still want to get their high-fashion on in new or interesting ways that express something. We know this look – and makeup – aren’t to a lot of people’s tastes. Point is, she knows that too. She went out like this anyway. She’s making a statement using style and we really can’t hate that.
