It’s funny. Looking at these shots it occurred to us that we were hemming and hawing over the obvious point, which is that she looks kind of fabulous here:
Your mileage may vary on the matter, of course. And normally, we’d be a bit sniffy about someone wearing an entire ensemble ripped from the runway. But here’s the thing: She is ridiculously well-suited to classic French houses when they put out work inspired by their classic aesthetic. This may look like a goofy pile of random design elements, but she’s working classic Chanel tweeds, quilting, and gold chains.
If Cate or Lupita stepped out in this, we wouldn’t hesitate to gush and be all “Look at her, getting all ooh-la-la on us!” With Marion, it’s so normal to see her acing French fashion like it’s effortless that we sometimes forget to note how fabulous she looks.
Yes, it’s a lot. But damn, can she make it all work for her. And we’d argue one of France’s leading actresses fronting their premiere acting awards is absolutely the right time to go head-to-toe on one of their iconic fashion houses.
