In case you missed the show, this is the part where Lupita stepped up to the mic and said “We’re all going to just stand here and be flawless for a couple minutes. Die jealous, haters.”
Then they all did this and everybody fainted.
Or maybe that’s just how we remember it the next morning. Either way, it feels true and that’s what’s most important here. Bottom line, eleganza was served.
Chadwick Boseman in Versace
GodDAMN, Chadwick. We didn’t know how he was going to outdo his stunning string of red carpet looks in 2018, but he sure has kicked off the New Year with one hell of a drop-dead ensemble. We are DYING over the shoes. WERQ, King.
Danai Gurira in Rodarte
Several things shock at once. First, that this Reagan White House gala gown comes off looking so fresh and fuck-you fierce on her (although that’s not totally all that shocking given her red carpet bona fides and ability to make anything sing) and second, that it’s a Rodarte and we fricking love it. She looks stunning. WERQ, diva.
Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein
If it was just about the dress, we’d note how absolutely amazing that shade of blue looks on her and how she has the world-class poise and dress-wearing skills to make all of that incredibly fussy beaded fringe look as smooth as a still pond. But this is Lupita, which means it’s never just about the dress. She’s always had one of the best hair teams in the biz, but this shape paired with that dress is a stroke of genius. And you can go ahead and WERQ that matching eyeshadow, Queen.
Michael B. Jordan in Burberry
While we have to admit his is the least jaw-dropping of the four looks, he knows good and damn well that he only needs to WERQ that face to stand out in a crowd. Having said that, we’re expecting more from him in the awards shows to come. Step it up, please. This is good, but Chadwick’s wearing silver sparkly loafers, Sir.
