We don’t feature very much of the celebrity style displayed on Watch What Happens Live in comparison to most other late-night talk shows and there’s one really good reason for that: The set is an utter nightmare for picture-taking. Which is why we think Miss Annie here is showing off her PhD-level knowledge of how to dress for the occasion, because she is not hard to find in any of these shots and that is not likely to have been a happy accident.
We think a lot of her recent TV promotional wardrobe has been deliberate loud and even jarring at times. We talked in last week’s podcast about the trend in celebrity womenswear to “take up space” more and her recent style turns have been of a piece with that thought. Like Sarah Paulson, she’s less concerned with prettiness or trendiness and more concerned with making an impression and standing out. We go back and forth on whether we love this. On the one hand, it’s got a fun sort of Mary Tyler Moore retro vibe to it. On the other hand, the color story is borderline-ugly to our eyes and every time we encounter the phrase “corduroy suit,” we shudder involuntarily.
He looks great. Too low-key for the set and his brightly hued co-star, but that’s a pretty nice suit that looks great on him. An open white dress shirt was a bad idea, though. Give him a forest green one or even a dark brown one.
