Is it us or is Gwynnie actually … trying lately? And we mean that in the sense of putting in the effort (“She’s really trying!“), not in the sense of getting on one’s nerves (“She’s really trying.”) that you may have assumed inadvertently. It’s practically her job at this point to go around getting on people’s nerves, but it feels like ever since her wedding, she’s actually putting a modicum of effort into her style, which hasn’t always been the case.
Which isn’t to say we love this. We don’t quite hate it, but we’re not seeing a lot of reasons to fall all over it with praise. But it’s got a quality we’re not used to seeing from her in recent years. Gwynnie never goes for drama in her style anymore, and if there’s been an underlying aesthetic in the past decade or so, it could probably be summed up as “Whatever, bitches.” Granted, she’s still got the pin-straight center-parted hair. She’s still eschewing any richness in color and choosing items that literally just hang off her. And if we’re being honest, it feels like she’s stealing from the Olsen twins. But at least it’s a look with a little personality and drama to it. Hey, we’re just trying to inject a little positivity into the world. Stop looking at us like that.
