Because to our eyes, this design only works without the sleeves. You tack them on and suddenly it looks like very “Maria from the Abbey.” Cute to dowdy with one simple trick; not just because 3/4 length sleeves were never really her friends, but because the color balance is thrown off. Now she looks like she’s wearing a frumpy yellow dress with a blue apron over it instead of a kicking blue-and-yellow dress. The high-contrast belt action isn’t much helping the look either.
