Part One is here! All of our other 2024 Met Gala coverage is here! Get caught up and get into this!

Awkwafina in H&M
Pin

This almost works for us, largely because it has an elegance that she tends to avoid. Unfortunately, the shapes and proportions are odd and unflattering. And the shoes look cheap as hell.

Brie Larson in Prada
Pin

It’s a blandly nice dress with one of those fly tents you put over the potato salad at a picnic.

Cailee Spaeny in Miu Miu
Pin

The dress design is okay, but we’ve covered her enough times now to recognize that her preference for demureness skews toward the dowdy and mature. The hair and makeup are doing her no favors.

Cara Delevingne in Stella McCartney
Pin

Kinda fun, but top heavy.

Charli XCX in Marni
Pin

It’s made from vintage undershirts, which is very much in keeping with the night’s themes. The design is sharp, but the styling is lacking.

Chloë Sevigny in Dilara Fındıkoğlu
Pin

This was also made from scraps of vintage pieces, but we found it a little too literal and costumey. The point was to reawaken sleeping beauties, not reanimate corpses.

Dua Lipa in Marc Jacobs
Pin

Boring, stale and obvious. She was done wrong by Marc Jacobs.

FKA twigs in Stella McCartney
Pin

Her styling is incredible, but we can’t say we’re in love with the yarn rug.

Janelle Monáe in Vera Wang
Pin

Enh. The design is pretty, but the relentless nakedness on this red carpet is boring.

Jeff Goldblum in Prada
Pin

Gorgeous. This is a man who knows how to accessorize.

Kerry Washington in Oscar de la Renta
Pin

It’s pretty in an obvious way but we’re not mad at it. The hair is terrible.

Michelle Williams in Chanel
Pin

It’s way too bridal, but it’s uniquely pretty. The pink hair and the vintage diamond necklace (designed by Coco herself) make the look.

Michelle Yeoh in Balenciaga
Pin

Girl, you should have spun on your heels and walked right the hell out of that atelier when they presented this Reynolds Wrap schmatta to you.

Naomi Watts in Balenciaga
Pin

This is gorgeous and we love the witchy shoes and veil. The gloves are not needed and come close to ruining the look.

Pamela Anderson in Oscar de la Renta
Pin

We tend to hate white people in beige on the red carpet because it rarely photographs well for us, but there’s something to be said for suitability and personality making a look. There’s a restrained elegance that she rarely got to indulge in during her career. Paired with her latter preference for a relatively clean face, it just really works for her. Not so sure about the feathers but she’s allowed to have fun with it.

Penélope Cruz in Chanel Couture
Pin

It’s not a fresh design by any stretch, but she does look gorgeous in it.

Rachel Zegler in Michael Kors Collection
Pin

The color looks amazing on her. We’re close to declaring a moratorium on opera coats, because they’re starting to become a cliche.

Rebecca Hall in Danielle Frankel
Pin

We should’ve put this one in the florals post. It was one of the more literal but also unique takes on the theme. She likes her fashion on the weird side, so this really suits her. Our only problem is with the wet hair and heavy makeup. She should’ve been teased to the heavens.

Simone Ashley in Atelier Prabal Gurung
Pin

Meh. The color’s nice, but this feels more appropriate for the Grammys.

Taraji P. Henson in Simkhai
Pin

What an awful design. There’s way too much going on and all of it looks heavy and discordant.

Tessa Thompson in Chanel
Pin

This looks like a dress designed by an alien who has never seen a dress before.

Tyla in Balmain
Pin

The sand dress made quite an impact and she got her viral moment out of it, but it’s not a particularly impressive design, it’s literal as hell (imagine if they started with the idea of evoking sand instead of just dipping a dress in sand) and it was so impractical that she had to literally be carried around. And it’s not even all that impressive a visual.

Willow Smith in Dior Couture
Pin

Absolutely love the hair, but the fashion is a total afterthought.

Zoe Saldana in Chloé
Pin

The branded belt is tacky. The outfit is drab and far too casual for the venue.
