Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn adhered to the tradition and hauled themselves up onto a London rooftop for the A Quiet Place: Day One photoca–OKAY WE CAN’T BE QUIET ANY LONGER DO NOT WE REPEAT DO NOT USE CATS IN YOUR PROMOTIONAL EFFORTS, ESPECIALLY IF THEY INVOLVE HIGH, STRANGE, OPEN SPACES FULL OF NOT-FRIENDS. We get that acting cats (assuming perhaps too gullibly that this is the one that stars in the film as Lupita’s character’s cat, Frodo) are usually extremely well-trained and some of them have made red carpet appearances without seeming particularly stressed, but this poor guy is clearly not happy with his current sitch. Just from a purely practical perspective, a clearly stressed cat can undo the entire point of a photo call in the first place, because it winds up being what people focus on.

But we’ll do our duties and make it about fashion. Still, we really hope this is the last we see of this poor guy during the promo tour.

Oof. We hate it. We’ve typed the word “brown” more times in the last week than in the last three months, so it’s safe to say we’re in a counter-intuitive spring trend for earth tones at the moment. We’re not super-crazy about these orangey shades for him, but our real issue is with the selection of textiles and the choices made in tailoring them. Sorry, but that jacket looks awful on him, as do the pants. We hate the finish on the boots and the fact that they introduce a third, clashy shade of brown to the ensemble. Scrap all of it. We assume the hair’s for a role – he just wrapped Gladiator II – but if it’s not, we’d like to gently suggest he grow it out pronto.

The cut of the suit – tailored jacket, wide-leg pants – doesn’t appeal to us. It feels a bit less than fresh, as does the shade of pink. And we aren’t crazy about the way the hems and the pockets practically glow because of the slight sheerness of the textile. Also, the jewelry seems too extravagant for a day look, let alone a suit. She doesn’t look terrible, of course. She’d have to work a lot harder for that to happen. But we won’t be placing this on any Best Of lists for her. We hope the artist known as Frodo gets a new pillow, a dish of crab meat, and a quarter-ounce of the finest pharmaceutical-grade catnip for his troubles. Alternately, a big box.
