Thom Browne is the modern P.T. Barnum of fashion; a master showman who will always find ways to dazzle your eyes and get you to question what you’re looking at. You don’t have to find deeper meaning in it. Every time we’ve gone to one of his shows, it was clear we were seeing the result of one little obsession that’s been gnawing away at Thom Browne’s brain for the last 6 months, whether it’s nuns, Victorian dolls, or in this case, a twisted garden party. And it’s clear he wouldn’t have been able to rest until he explored every weird angle of the subject and got it out of his system so he can move onto the next obsession. You’re not going to see these exact clothes on the rack, certainly. But you’ll see far more wearable versions playing on these same themes. For Thom Browne, a runway show is his chance to go as wild as he wants, selling the idea of the brand and what it wants to make available to you in the coming season.
