Time to play anouther round of Pretend Stylist, kittens. Let’s stipulate that the hair, makeup and dress are all cute, yes?

But doesn’t it feel like it’s missing something?

Clearly the shoes are an attempt to bump things up a bit, but we really don’t like that shade of blue paired with this dress. And we feel like pumps are a little too safe a choice. We think a color that played off the red tones in the dress, like a dark purple shoe, would bring this together in a slightly more chic, even – Dare we say it? – matchy sort of way. We also think she can do better earrings than those. A little dangle or sparkle would not be out of place or unwelcome in this area. We keep thinking the dress needs a belt, but the waist sits so high that we doubt one would look very flattering on her.

Your turn, darlings.

Green shoes and thin pink belt.

        Light green…maybe a sandal?

    • Sobaika

Eggplant shoes and a blingier bracelet.

    • JauntyJohn

Medium sized cuff, bigger earrings for sure, blue belt, purple-ish shoe.
      Stonger lip, too, I think.

    • Dany

I would like a nice belt, preferably purple. Rust orange shoes. More gold based earrings with a opal jewel on them.

    • Noah

Purple shoes, bigger earrings, cuff or cocktail ring, and I’m actually going to go ahead and say the dress could probably be a size smaller.

      • gingerella

Wow, you are so right. How often does anyone say that?

      • Patricia Groves Dobrowski

Defnitely a bit more fitted in the waist. Not so sure about making the bust any smaller.

    • imperfectlaura

Charlotte Olympia Eiffel Tower heels in green and gold earrings that don’t look like band-aids. It needs a belt, but I’m not really sure what I’d do about that.

    • Jessica Freeman

I would have gone with a skinny belt and slightly darker blue shoe.

    • Jaeda Laurez

grey pumps and silver jewelry- her jewelry doesn’t detract from it, but it certainly doesn’t help.

    • Nancer

The dress is really cute, but it needs something to break up all of the pattern. I agree that the cut probably won’t accommodate a belt, which was my first impulse. So I think a large statement necklace is called for, maybe dark blue. Not a choker – it has to cover part of the front of the dress just to give this a focus.

    • Sarah

Jade earrings and give those shoes back to Lupita.

    • gingerella

My mom used to teach at John Robert Powers back in the day, and they would tell their students that they needed to have seven “points of interest” in an outfit, and that was back in the 50s/60s. She has, at most, five: eye makeup, dress pattern, shoe color, hair, bare arms, jewelry.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

“Needs a belt” was my first thought. Maybe something skinny but in an eye-grabbing color, just for definition. Hot pink?

    • Anna

I like the idea of bringing out the orange and the darker green, so an orange skinny belt and green strappy sandals (don’t know the name of the style but I saw a pair Giuseppi Zanotti ones the other day that would’ve been perfect). And if I could, I’d lower that waistline.

    • Bexxx

Who do I have to kill to get that body?

    • MilaXX

I think she needs a shoe the color of Taylor’s dress from yesterday. Then add a better earring. The jewelry is all too basic.

    • lunchcoma

I think this look calls for a more noticeable bracelet or some eyecatching rings. Do that, change the shoes, and I think this would be darling.

    • hughman

I’d treat the dress like a jumper and put a sheer white blouse under the dress so we see a sheer long sleeve and a white collar. Then, once we establish this British/school girl attitude, I’d give her a Mary Jane pump with a thick heel. Maybe something from Miu Miu.

    • carrie

      Lipstick.

    • quiltrx

Earrings that dangle some but aren’t huge. It’s still summer, how about a silver/gunmetal sandal?

    • Gloriana Reginata

Sorry, but I would ditch that dress, which looks one up from a housedress with a weave pattern that implies it’s made of straw. Something that went with the blue of the shoes would be a nice substitute. And I agree that she’s looking coifed – maybe a dress with a bit more formality, to match the up-do.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

      Teal shoes. Gold belt. :)

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

She needs a touch of Texas in the hair and a belt around that waist to break it up. And a stronger lip.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

Please create a perfume called Touch of Texas and sell it at truckstops and Bloomingdales.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

It would have to double as a hair spray.

          • Elizabetta1022

            With the strength of Aquanet…

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

Silver cuff with some emerald embellishment, maybe purple shoes. She’s so lovely.

    • countervail

I get the pop of color with the shoes, but it seems a little too obvious. I would have used a wide black belt to define her waist better and as other’s mention a colorful but darker shoe to be more elegant. She looks AMAZING nonetheless. Nice to see the OITNB gals clean up.

    • Mothra

I do not find that those “fit and flair” dresses look good on anyone who weighs more than 6 lbs. The fabric is also unflattering and looks itchy. One of the greatest things a stylist can do is make you look comfortable. Because when a lady star looks and feels good, everyone around her see is. Example: I have a great girl friend who is about a size 4 on a ‘fat day’ but she is always cold. She refuses, however, to pair a little cardigan or a wrap with her cute dresses because she feels they detract from the dress. But she spends the entire night shivering, which is not a good look. Comfort is attractive. It is the essence of Be Me or Do Me, isn’t it?

Needs a more interesting shoe and some color on her lip and perhaps a bracelet or two.

    • Scimommy

Hmm. I’m seeing a wide lilac/lavender colored belt to define the waist and a much stronger (dark red/wine) lip. If the belt provides the pop of color, maybe a grey shoe?

    • Hetha Innis

      Her eyes are gorgeous!

    • MarissaLG

      more and chunkier gold bracelets!

    • OffToSeeHim

Softer hair, pink or orange shoe, maybe a hair accessory and a cool purse.

    • FibonacciSequins

She is missing something. I would like to add sparkly earrings and red lipstick. The shoe color is too muted, but I do like blue with that (very pretty) dress. Her hair and makeup (aside from the lip color) are on point.

    • Imasewsure

I’m not really sold on the makeup either… maybe because it just doesn’t live up to that smile? Would prefer a lighter touch I guess or maybe the whole look just suffers from the day-dress styling? Cute but she is cuter

    • Zeee

Definitely a belt, and maybe a wide one. I also think part of the problem is that the neck is too high.

      • Betsy

The high neck and high waistline are conspiring against her rack.

    • Dino Bonačić

      Gold belt & violet sandals.

    • PeggyOC

Change her cheek color to her lip color. She’s got no lip color but her cheeks are glowing pink.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Another dress that looks good with the shoes.

    • Violentcello

Mint green shoes, gold belt, bigger gold earrings.

    • marlie

I hate the dress, but just to play along, a cuff bracelet and dark pink shoes would liven this up. And a slightly bolder lip color.

    • PastryGoddess

Drama in the earrings. I would say orange or maybe even mint green shoes. A metallic might not be out of place either. A bigger bracelet or a ginormous cocktail ring.

    • Monkey Toe

If you are on Orange is the New Black a bracelet that looks like half of a pair of handcuffs is a little spot on.

    • Judy_J

Agreed. She needs a slightly more dramatic pair of earrings. Brighter lip color would help, too. Those blue pumps are awful….navy blue would be a better choice, color-wise.

    • Qitkat

Sorry guys, I would throw out the dress. The problem for me is that the designer is letting the pattern of the woven fabric do all the work. The dress itself could be run up in a couple of hours on a home sewing machine from a McCalls pattern. It looks like upon extremely close examination, that the fabric may be manipulated near the shoulders, but it is such a busy fabric, the detail is lost from even a short distance. At the least it needs a belt, contrasting piping, a different neckline for the actress (this is not the most flattering for her). Or start over. I am bored by this, and Uzo Aduba deserves better.

    • Miranda

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    • ThaliaMenninger

Oddly, I am wondering if a pin or piece of jewelry would help. And I am also wondering about a flat, pointy shoe. But I’m probably insane.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

I think bigger earrings would have done the trick. Or maybe a slightly bigger stud earring set with a thick gold chain? Maybe soft coral shoes with a little mary jane type of strap to match the preppyness of the dress. She’s adorable. I’m so used to seeing her as Crazy Eyes. Watching her on Conan just made me smile. She’s so cute.

    • EveEve

Put her in a dress with some pizazzy color and a bit of detail to it – and leave the rest alone. The dress fabric looks like a dull woven pot holder.

    • Sherilyne Cox

Don’t care for the fabric…..looks like airplane upholstery. Her beautiful mouth needs more color to highlight that gorgeous gap-toothed smile.

    • KendraMR

That dress definitely needs a belt; it’s not giving her much of a shape. Also tone down the shoes and add some statement earrings.

    • boweryboy

Now is the time when a good old fashion blingtastic brooch would work like gangbusters.

      • Shawn EH

Or a big imposing but sort of rough necklace, like coral or jet or ivory.

    • snarkykitten

Not really diggin the shark fin on her head. Or the monotone makeup. Or…any of it, really.

    • somebody blonde

Dark gray pumps, gold pendant necklace. That’s what I think would make it happen.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

She should have pulled the shoe-color from that bright turquoisy green in the dress – when I imagine it, it immediately goes more summery, so it could even be a pump, though I’d probably prefer a cute peep-toe (fuchsia pink polish on the toes that show). Keep the earrings, add a long 1920s-style strand of pearls, hitting around hip-level to make the eyes play with that pattern a little and lengthen the shape, as well as playing up the sculptural hair (which is giving me hints of Josephine Baker so it fits with the 1920s idea).

I also might have added a little gold shimmer to her eyeshadow just to play up the glam a little, but it’s not necessarily necessary. (“Not Necessarily Necessary” shall be a keynote song in my someday biographical musical about fashion and accessorizing).

    • GemFemme

Hate the texture and pattern of the fabric. It looks too stiff and sofa-ish for a summer dress.
A nice big bangle would have looked okay.

    • StillGary

I would have gone for something more mature — this looks a little too primer for a grown woman serious actor — I would like to see her fierce — she’s got the bod for it!

    • lamh

as a woman with a large gap just like Uzo here, can I just say that everytime I see that lovely gap-toothed smile of hers, the lil Black girl, who got teased mercilessly when she was younger, inside of me does a little happy dance.

      • Kitten Mittons

I love love love her gap. Her smile gives me such warm and fuzzies.

    • crashtestbonnie

I’ve *almost* gotten through S1 of OITNB and I <3 Uzo and her role in the first season. I was all good on the scroll down until I hit the shoes and – swear to Dog – 3 fingertips to the lips in a "oh darlin NO" move. T Lo, I blame you. :D SUPER close on this. At least an "atta girl" if not a "werq."

    • MoHub

Wiast seam is too high, and it needs a belt.

    • LibKat

I’m actually okay with the dress and the shoe color. I’d like to see a belt and a fierce cuff bracelet. Also a stronger lip color. That nude lip doesn’t give her lovely face enough definition.

    • SistaT

Large gold hoops. Gold (or even hot pink) sandals. Cuff. Loosen that hair into a huge twist-out.

    • julnyes

A jeweled bracelet!!! Some colored stones, not white diamonds.

    • cowper

Cut of the dress is not flattering to her. Having the waist nip in right where the bends in her arms are–connecting them visually–truncates her whole torso, making her look about five years old. She is SO much better than this dress!

    • JynxTheCat
