Does this lady have presence or what?

Charisma is the word. It’s hot.

This dress is fine, but it’s fairly low-key for the event and doesn’t particularly photograph all that well. We’re not fans of hems that irregular. It starts to look like a mistake. And the shoes are fine too, but that’s it. They’re just fine. Basic black pumps, for the most part.

And yet you could not take your eyes off her, even as she was standing next to women wearing much more elaborate and attention-seeking looks than hers. She is the poster girl woman for the “Chin up, tits out, shoulders back” school of how to present yourself.

Still, as much as we appreciate the consistency of her style (never saw her in anything but a dramatic black gown on the red carpet) and the simplicity of her style, we sure would love to see what she could do with some edgier couture. If she can work those Cersei gowns as well as she does, we see no reason why we can’t get her in some Gaultier or McQueen.

She put up with Sanberg’s tomfoolery during the show, too.

    • SugarSnap108

I upvoted you for saying ‘tomfoolery.’

    • What a trooper she was for that! And looked absolutely gorgeous on stage.

  • She and Robin Wright have the same gorgeous aging face. I yearn for those amazing fine lines.

    • Yes!! I was going to say she’s like a brunette version of Robin Wright!

    • smayper

Agree agree! Would that other celebs would take note. She just looks so much more beautiful than the Botox and lift and fill and cover crowd.

    • Julie Chase

Holy shit, that is SO true.

I love that in real life she’s brunette and edgy and SO not Cersei. If only she had brought Pedro Pascal as her date.

    • Tina M.

you guys read my mind! I love both of them so much. And they rock the same-ish short haircut, too.

  • Jennifer Bober

This is a woman who doesn’t enter a room, she takes it. I agree, it would be great to see her in something really edgy. She’d totally rock it.

It’s interesting that a dress this tricky can still be so simple. A nice juxtaposition.

  • SugarSnap108

I don’t like anything she’s wearing, but I think she looks fabulous. Yes, that’s presence. And face.

  • deelup

Would’ve loved more color in her jewelry, and gosh those back tattoos are so basic looking. But yeah, there’s a reason she can convincingly play a noblewoman. She’s got power.

    • higgledypiggledy

      Great minds!

    • bassfemme

Those tats look like she’s had ’em a while, which only makes her cooler, IMO.

  • smh4748

    A tale of two Lenas:

“She is the poster woman for the ‘Chin up, tits out, shoulders back’ school of how to present yourself.”

“Someone left the Barbie cake out in the rain….She’s a lonely little toilet paper roll cover, whose toilet paper roll has left her.”

    • Nikko Viquiera

This is the LENA I can get behind.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

This is the Lena who could take down a thousandthousand dragons.

    • The other Lena needs to sit down and spend about a year studying this Lena’s public appearances.

    • Raspberry2012

      Brava for that comparison!

  • Regal.

  • higgledypiggledy

She’s got bone structure for days. That plus commanding, badass charisma will get you very far. (Even if those tattoos are kind of basic.)

    • moxx

She’s obviously had them for ages, they were more than likely in fashion back then.

      • higgledypiggledy

        Fair point.

  • ailujailuj

I am so madly in love with her.
And these photos are so so good—I caught a few others and it was just a wreck out there. I just wish that the asymmetrical shoulder drop was on the opposite shoulder so her tat was “presented” better. Because it is part of her presentation, you better believe it. LOVE THE HAIR.

  • Gatto Nero

Despite the slightly wackadoo hem, she looks stunning in this. Strong and charismatic. The asymmetry works for her.
I’d love to see her in Gaulter or McQueen.

  • Imasewsure

Don’t watch her show, don’t like tattoos and yet TOTAL GIRL CRUSH.. she’s amazing and I love this look from head to toe (on her)

    • Introspective

Same!! Cannot take my eyes off her…

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

    Bitch is fierce.

  • Sherilyne Cox

This gown is exquisite in every way. Lena understands the power of presentation, and how to present her power.

    • VCR1

This dress suits her style perfectly. I thought she looked great!

  • kirsten Walther

I wish people would stop getting so-so tattoos.

    • snarkykitten

I don’t understand why/how celebs do it. They have more money than god and can just hop on a plane & go anywhere…why get all this shitty scratcher shit? If I ever made it, I’d go to all the tattoo artists I covet.

      • Shawn EH

I’m going to posit a youthful indiscretion for these; at least the bird, lotus, flowers are fairly standard and old school.

        • BLauDGaspode

I think I remember that her back was not all the way covered before… she only had the flower? Off to Google pictures of Lena Headey’s back.

          • Shawn EH

You’re right, looks like the swallow is newer.

    • Sarah

She might not think they’re so-so.

      • Nikko Viquiera

Also, her tattoos might have personal stories or memories behind them. Hard to judge, so better not.

  • TheGrandSophy

Very striking even though I’m not *that* keen on the dress so, yes, it is all about presence… and that gorgeous face.

  • I don’t think I could contain myself seeing Lena Headey in Gaultier.

She is the Queen of Bitch Face and I am her serf.

  • SistaT

She’s just fire. Fiyah. I love her. Everything about her says “Eat it”.

  • mapmakerscolors

YASSSSS. Her style here is really no different than she’s ever done, but she is WORKING IT to a degree that I haven’t seen before.

I know GoT has an uphill climb for be recognized for its acting simply because of the size of the cast, but I really hope she’ll at least be nominated again next year.

  • Wink

I’m afraid she’ll kick my ass if I say I don’t like what she’s wearing.

  • 25or6to4

    CHA. RIS. MA.

(Also, me being wierd and/or sleep-deprived here, but she has such a lovely neck.)

  • snarkykitten

Holy shit she’s hot. Wish she’d get those tattoos touched up by a better artist.

    • Constant Reader

I know just the one. She’d have to fly to Massachusetts for it, but tattoos are forever.

      • snarkykitten

        Who are you thinking of?

        • Constant Reader

Mandrake Tattoo in Raynham. Check them out on FB. Full disclosure: I don’t have any tattoos, but I met one of the owners and she’s awesome. They do gorgeous work.

  • Dandesun

Queen Gorgo. Queen Cersei. She’s got the presence for some fucking bad-ass queens and she LIVES it. She’s fabulous.

  • Lex

She’s a badass punk. Love her edgy style!

  • luludexter

As a fan of the dramatic black gown, I thoroughly approve. I kind of like the minimal styling here, esp with the tattoos, nothing’s competing for attention and she just looks gorgeous. Although the thought of McQueen on her does make me happy…

    • Pterodactyl111

I love it with the tattoos. That’s how you do it.

  • Kathie

    Girlfriend brought it. WERQ

  • LFH

She DOES have presence! “Joffrey, not now!” she calmly says to Samberg.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      That was funny.

  • GorgeousThings

Oh, McQueen! She could give Cate a run in McQueen.

  • frannyprof

    I love her. Freaking fabulous.

  • redhead with tattoos

The dress is a fabulous frame for her tattoos and for that she gets an A++ for me.

  • gracedarling

Ooh, those back tatts are tragic. The linework on her arms is working like gangbusters though. And her face!

(Don’t tell her I dissed her tattoos, she might evaporate me with the power of her gaze.)

  • Eclectic Mayhem

    *struck dumb with awe*

  • nannypoo

    Best short hair ever.

    • alyce1213

I love it. It’s reminiscent of the ’50s Italian haircuts, updated, very sexy.

  • Tanya Wade

I really do want to be her.

  • NMMagpie

You work those tats, Lady Fierce.

  • Bonnie Blue

Many of these posts convince me I watch all the wrong shows, because I have no idea who many of these people are!…however this woman looks fabulous and this is how you present yourself with confidence and pride, no matter what you are wearing. The dress is sorta OK, but she’s wearing the heck out of it.

  • evave2

This is basic, unusual and dramatic. I think it probably filled her requirements to a T.

  • tiny_bookbot

She always looks like she is just having a great time, too. Like all this is really tremendous fun. If her Instagram is anything to go by, she’s loving her life (and her coworkers!) these days.

  • SportifLateBoomer

Thank you TLO gurus for this mantra. “Chin up, tits out, shoulders back” is what I now say to myself whenever I walk into a room of people.

It’s going to come in handy in a few days, when I’m going to a wedding, alone, where I’ll know only a few people, as I’m newly single.

If I can look anywhere near as fab and fierce as she can, I’ll be in good shape. Love love love what she is serving. Don’t watch GoT but now want to seek out her work.

    • Gatto Nero

I hope you catch more than a few eyes, meet some interesting people, and have a fabulous time at the wedding!

    • snarkykitten

Good luck at the wedding! I definitely play that mantra in my head whenever I’m out.

I’ve only ever seen her in Dredd, but she’s compelling as hell.

  • Sarah

She is gorgeous, and I wish I had EVER looked like that in a dress in my entire life.

  • anotherkate

I’m sure everyone wants to be her. I know I do.

  • Richard Harper

There’s wearing a great dress, and there’s making everyone believe you deserve to be wearing a great dress. This lady is extremely the latter.

  • jif

Queen. Everything she’s wearing is just meh, but she is spectacular.

  • Melmmmendes

I love a woman who can look that confident without relying on bitchface. She looks kind and completely badass at the same time.

  • JauntyJohn

Dream casting: This woman and that gal from “Penny Dreadful.” (No, not Rose. The other one.)
Whatever you put them in, I simply cannot imagine it being anything but compulsively watchable.

  • antonialee

This was a WERQ for me!

  • alyce1213

I’m not a fan of irregular hems generally, but this one I love. I have no complaints. Beautiful.

  • Stubenville

The striped material reads “hotel bedspread.”

  • Clere Norrey

Not only is she gorgeous, she’s hilarious. I want to hang out with her and Peter D.

  • xmixiex

She is fierce as hell and it’s cool to see better tattoos than goofy Lena’s on the RC.

    • Skippymom1

      yes. so yes.

  • I love her hair. And her. I would argue (because that’s what I do, darlin’) that the hem in irregular enough to look intentional. Sometimes if it’s just a little angle to the hem it looks like bad patternmaking, but this looks like a bold design with the single shoulder opposing the lower edge of the hem. A rakish dress for a rakish lady. If she wore McQueen or Gaultier I might die of fabulousness.

  • yayito83

    Love her

  • KinoEye

Lena in McQueen would be a dream. Such a palate cleanser from the other Lena. Love her hair.

  • quiltrx

This dress strikes me as really editorial–if it were something other than black. I like the “it’s kind of going everywhere”-ness of it.
And she is a goddess, really.

  • Anique Ashraf

I actually kind of love her philosophy of dressing to show herself off, rather than the dress. The backlessness (word?) of this dress to accentuate her tattoos was a smart decision.

  • Glammie

It’s funny, I’m not really a tats person, but I think this outfit works because of the tats–they’re what keep the dress and her hair from being too austere. It’s nice to see styling with the body art in mind. Man, she does have major presence–there’s a reason she’s played queens–I first saw her as Queen Gorgo (Gorga) in 300–I’ve looked for her ever since. She just kind of rocks.

  • MilaXX

She just always look like she will jack you up if you say the wrong thing. I kinda like that.

  • Bozhi

That is a classic example of why getting tats when you are young will look really stupid when you get older.

  • ballerinawithagun

What a fabulous woman! And she hasn’t botoxed her life away!

  • Melissa Brogan

Excellent posture is really helping sell a somewhat iffy dress. Take notes, ladystars.

  • Sophie

She looks great and I love the fabric of her dress. The colour attenuates the trickiness of the dress, and she just looks so confident she could wear anything.

  • decormaven

Talk about holding the attention with the eyes! This woman is working it. Love she kept it fairly simple with adornments so as not to compete with the body art.

  • MarissaLG

I just want to watch a never-ending TV show starring Lena Heady and Robin Wright. Something where they hunt down rapists and abusers. Please make it happen, Hollywood!

  • Jaeda Laurez

I love her. She’s a star. Period. I like the dress, even if I’m not quite convinced the middle couldn’t use…something. But she’s amazing.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love her face. She just has “IT.”

  • MM4321

    OR WHAT!

  • Skippymom1

Her face says it all. This woman has lived life to the fullest and has no apologies. Beautiful.

  • LadyVimes

Full on snaps. She’s gorgeous and a bamf.

  • Lena smugly invites you to suck her ass.

  • cocohall

She made me want to cut my hair and get a tattoo. If I thought doing either would help me look like this, I would, but it is really her attitude that is making it all work. Fantastic!

  • Mr. J.

Whoa! Is that lady sexy or WHAT? She looks great…..wrinkles are part of what makes her look great.

  • Raspberry2012

I’m not bananas about the dress and shoes, but I like the way she’s owning it. She’s posing like she’s wearing something much, much more interesting.

  • formerlyAnon

I wish she’d gone for severe but impressive jewelry with this.

  • crowTrobot

The fact that this woman hasn’t won an Emmy for Cersei Lannister is reason #1453 why the Emmys suck.

  • Jessica Peterson

THIS is the reason to avoid Botox. Her face looks fantastic with those crow’s feet, the forehead wrinkles, the lines at her cheeks. Ugh. It’s utterly refreshing to see someone’s face doing what faces naturally do. Women, take note!

    • I was also thinking that she looks like Lara Flynn Boyle before Lara Flynn Boyle messed up her face.

  • Kate

Wow, she is gorgeous. What great make-up, you really see her strength and personality. She seems quite unique.

  • kalisa

    Love her hair.

  • MannahattaMamma

A person who knows herself, and likes herself, that’s what her red-carpet persona says

  • JuliaInBlack

I know this has been said a trillion times, but each time I see Lena – and so many other Game of Thrones actors – out of costume, I realize the genius of their casting team. She’s so Cersei it hurts.

  • heartbot

I love her. That is all.

  • majorbedhead

She looks like she will not put up with anyone’s shit.

Man, I need to train myself to do that one-eyebrow arch thing.

    • catsonmars28

I can do the one-eyebrow arch thing, but it is definitely not the same! I don’t have the bad-ass-itude to pull it off.

  • Sam Smith

I love her presence, I love her tats, I love her wrinkles and for having wrinkles.

  • ErmengardeGreen

    Gosh I love her.

  • Clair Ellis

Now that is how you rock a back tattoo. Take notes Lena Dunham.

  • LibKat

So wanted her to smack Andy Samberg when she was presenting. I think she wanted it too. (Can’t stand him. Would love Brooklyn 99 except for him at the center ruining everything.)

  • Skippy Devereaux

Nothing says class like a woman with a tattoo.

  • librarygrrl64

She looks SO gorgeous here. I hate that she has to put up with that awful wig on the show; the color does nothing for her unique beauty.

  • DuBey2

Can anyone tell me who her shoes are by? They add a lot to the look, and since they don’t have a red sole, I certainly can’t identify them by guessing.
This styling is so stunning I hope we’ll see her lots more on red carpets right away.

  • EEKstl

She has that same charisma and confidence that Queen Helen has, and it is so sexy on both of them. Luv. Huh.

  • fananafanafophalec

GRACE! ELAN! POISE! but good god that dress looks like it was sewed from her curtains.

  • guest2visits

She’s beautiful, I loved the dress and the poise, but the back tats look very second rate to me.
