Dakota, we’re here to tell you this: you picked a really fabulous set of pieces here.

You didn’t stick the landing, hon.

We totally support this sudden turn toward “Debbie Harry at Studio 54 circa 1980” look, but you’re going to have to do something with the hair and makeup in order to really sell it. No one wears an off-the-shoulder tight red pantsuit with a clean face and Paltrow hair, dear. Not even Paltrow would do that. Great choices otherwise! Congratulations on finding a color other than “my skin tone!”

Love the color on her, but I agree on the lack of makeup. SO close, dear.

    • ecallaw1977

For her, she DID do something with her hair and makeup. Her hair usually looks unbrushed and due for a dye job, and her face usually looks like she’s in dire need of powder or blotting papers. It’s such an improvement I can’t help but grade her on a curve. In!

      • TheDivineMissAnn

Agree, This might be the best we’ve ever seen her.

  • marlie

OMG, a COLOR! And a jumpsuit that I like!! With slightly bolder lipstick, I’d give her a WERQ for this.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

      An Attagirl! At minimum.

    • Bridget Smith

My positive feelings towards this jumpsuit are CONFUSING and TERRIFYING. It’s…cute? And flattering? And interestingly constructed? WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE

      • Kayceed

That’s some sharp tailoring right there.

        • Bridget Smith

          It really is. Beautifully made.

      • Constant Reader

Who knew a jumpsuit like this would even be achieved in our lifetimes? It’s like watching the first moon landing, fellow kittens. We all need to comfort each other and hold hands until the uncomfortable feelings pass.

  • kirkyo

    This is encouraging. Baby steps.

  • Dakota Fanning is the new face of ACT – Avoiding Camel Toe.

    • kimmeister

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the crotch on a jumpsuit so well-fitted. SNAPS.

    • MK03

      Seriously, that’s magical.

      • Lucía Gavello

It is! Even the model has a hint of it… maybe not cameltoe but -that beautiful fug girls coined term- polterwang.

  • Sarah

That jumpsuit is a Feat of Tailoring. I am blown away by the fit on that thing. I would like her to remove one of the beaded bracelets, and I agree on the headsuit. Needs to be amped up.

    • demidaemon

Now, if only other boy and lady stars could apply this eye for tailoring to all of their looks. Fit is everything!

  • Jennifer Bober

Oh, a strong lip would do so much for this look. I’m just SO glad she’s not in eye makeup that makes her skin look muddy.

The jumpsuit is fabulous though. LOVE her in a saturated color.

    • KiP07

Yes! I actually think I am pretty solid on her eye makeup–just a good liner–but this look is crying out for a stronger lip. Totally agree, this is a surprisingly good jumpsuit and color looks so great on her!

  • Crystal

I never thought I’d see the day. Dakota Fanning in a bright ass color.

    • kimmeister

Well, pigs did fly by your window earlier today, right?

      • demidaemon

Considering the array of looks today and who has been in them, pigs aren’t only flying, they are soaring all over the world.

  • SewingSiren

This outfit screams, No! For the umpteenth time, I’m not the one playing Sleeping Beauty!

  • AlisonHendryx

I’m confused. I like her hair. What should she have done? Wouldn’t fussy hair and brighter make up make this look costumey?

    • Google “Debby Harry 1970s” and check out the hair and makeup. That’s what’s needed here.

      • FibonacciSequins

She’s probably keeping her hair as is in case she needs long hair for a role, which is understandable, but she would look smashing with some Debbie Harry bangs and layers!

        • But even with the length she could’ve used more volume. That is some Junior League hair.

          • FibonacciSequins

            I agree. Baby steps…

          • MilaXX

You should not have the same hair with couture that you have when you’re wearing jeans

        • MilaXX

Folks are doing magical things with fake hair these days. If she needed long hair for a role it wouldn’t be hard to get it.

    • MilaXX

An actual style for starters. Even a simple high pony would have been better than her usual let it hang style.

      • marlie

Yeah, this one never does anything different to her hair, ever, except just let it hang there.

    • mmgk

I like this too. For her, her hair looks polished and I think the clean face works really well with this. Her eyes are so striking that they don’t need a lot to play them up and a stronger lip would distract from them. The jumpsuit doesn’t even read as that 70s-ish to me. The fit seems more modern.

  • ceceliadid

WIsh she’d do a fierce bangs & bob, instead of the meh hair.

  • pamplemousse

dunno if a cat eye counts as a clean face….

    • boweryboy

I would say yes given that it’s the only lick of barely noticeable make-up on her otherwise extremely pale face.

    • MilaXX

When it’s a barely there only on the outer corners cat’s eye? Yesh that’s still a nearly nude face.

      • Constant Reader

And considering I didn’t even notice it the first time through…

  • Courtenay P

the tailoring on that is TO DIE for.

  • ktr33

    I’m impressed. Pretty fierce.

  • Tanya Wade

She’s rocking a jumpsuit with no visible camel toe. I give her a high score – no Russian judging here!

    • quiltrx

This was my thing…what kind of anti-camel-toe magic is she using, with a jumpsuit that fits this snugly? Amazing.

  • FibonacciSequins

This makes me so happy. She’s wearing something fresh, she’s wearing color, she’s showing off her figure. I could do with a more saturated version of that lip color and a little style to her hair, but this is a huge improvement for her!

  • MilaXX

I agree about the hair & face, but I’m still giving his a lower case attagirl! She’s wearing a color, the jumpsuit fits, AND her roots are done. Those are major steps that must be commended.

  • Qitkat

She does have beautiful big blue eyes, but something about her wide-eyed expression here looks a bit like glass doll’s eyes. Maybe a tiny bit of eye shadow, light brown or green, and a bit of brow maintenance and darkening, just a tad bit, would help remove that impression.
Also, this outfit need some killer earrings.

    • MilaXX

I think the eyes are fine, she just needs a bolder lip to balance it out. An earring wouldn’t hurt either.

  • boweryboy

She’s wearing color and somethin stylish to boot!

  • GillianHolroyd

Nope, perfect just as she is.

    I can’t believe I’m saying that about a *jumpsuit*.

    • FibonacciSequins

This may be the first jumpsuit I’ve liked in forever.

  • KinoEye

YES. Fanning and her stylists have finally heard our repeated cries for color, and they answered with gusto. The makeup and hair are wrong, but she’s working that jumpsuit like it’s going out of style. And the fit is impeccable. LOVE.

  • Sam Smith

Luv the color and luv the jumpsuit (which I don’t normally find myself saying).

  • deelup

I think the makeup is gorgeous and appropriate as not to be too vampy. The hair could use a little oomph. But I thought for sure the point deductions were going to be for the matching wrist things and/or the matching shoes and clutch.

  • bassfemme

All I can see is the pucker at the waistband and front rise. Otherwise, a nice modern approach to the j’suit.

  • AmyP

    You’re imaginarily gay?

  • msdamselfly

I think she looks amazing. A little more makeup and a fancier hairdo would have brought it home

  • The angle of that notched asymmetrical collar with the angle of her collarbones is EVERYTHING to me.

  • Imasewsure

Yes I’d go attagirl with a small “a” for this effort which is interesting but a bit too Goopish as mentioned.

  • alyce1213

No red jumpsuit will ever really do it for me, but as jumpsuits go, this is good. It fits her so well. I’d like more kickass shoes and as mentioned, something out of her comfort zone with her hair.

  • DagnyReardon

Lisa Eldridge just did a make up look on YouTube today with a model that has Dakota’s coloring. She needs to call Lisa ASAP.

  • SugarSnap108

It’s amazing what a bold color does for her. And it’s amazing what fabulous tailoring does for a jumpsuit.

  • kim bunchalastnames

i’m kind of loving those bracelets, too.

  • Judih1

TLO you always have a way of summarizing things in an insightful, witty and funny way. This one made me laugh out loud

  • BrianaJC

may not be perfect, but it’s one of the first times her hair hasn’t been some combination of oily and flat, and one of the rare times she has mascara and coverup on. based on her history, she looks GOOD.

  • LadyVimes

I actually like the clean face. I think it would come across as her playing dress up in mom’s closet if she caked on the eyes or lip. She just has a young face. I think she’s been 16 for five years now.

  • JynxTheCat

I actually think the fresh face modernizes it, Maybe some really shiny lip gloss

  • Cousin_Rose

The minimal makeup and straight hair look is so much her brand that I think you have to give this even higher marks. The color and design and fit of that pantsuit is so perfect that I wouldn’t try to force her to change anything else right now.

  • snarkalicious

My God she is tiny. Amazing what a pantsuit can do that a minuscule strapless dress can’t.

  • thatch pheasant

Just terrible. Gad. Twelve going on forty.

  • thatch pheasant

Make-up here is very accomplished. At least she hasn’t shoveled on the cake and paint to look like your usual Hollywood tartlet. See Amber.

  • DesertDweller79

I can’t stop staring at this jumpsuit. Completely in awe of the tailoring and how it seems to be avoiding camel toe. Amazing!

I love this color on her! Very exciting to see her wearing a color! Steps in the right direction, Dakota!

    • Amel

This is maybe the best jumpsuit I’ve seen – tailoring is perf. Well done, Dakota!

  • lilazander

She looks beautiful, but those bracelets look like plastic carnival beads/

  • sherrietee

She has a bizarre deer in headlights look, though.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Wow, that fits her like a glove. I’m glad the pants are tapered and not flared like on the model.

  • webslice33

  • lalahartma

    I think she looks great!

  • Mrs. O

Nope. Disagree. She’s a kid. Her makeup looks just fine for a kid. Agree the hair might benefit from some imagination. But, Boy Howdy!, when you are young enough and slim enough to pull off a red jumpsuit, go for it!

  • ThaliaMenninger

Supergirl! She’s gonna have to ditch the purse when the Commissioner calls, though.

  • MarinaCat

OMG, a young starlet not in the pigeon-toed and slightly slumped pose. How refreshing!
