Emma Stone in Balenciaga at “Earth Hour Kick-Off with Spider-Man” Event

Posted on March 31, 2014

Based on a purely unscientific reading of the data, they seem to be sending Emma and Andrew out on way more goofy shit this time around. “Quick! Get me my Balenciaga for EARTH HOUR KICK-OFF WITH SPIDER-MAN! My diamonds! WHERE ARE MY DIAMONDS?”

Not that we’re ragging on the World Wildlife Fund for what is no doubt a very good cause; just that we’re afraid she’s going to run out of outfits to wear before the film even opens.

As for this outfit… well. It’s something, all right. Credit to her for picking something so tricky. It’s probably a good idea to wear the trickier getups for events like this and save the much more dramatic and classic ones for the big-city photocalls and premieres. Even so, it’s not working even a little bit for us. The proportions are terrible and her entire top half is just plain confusing. Her hair and makeup look cute, but once again the body language tells the real story. “Yeah. I know. Just take the pictures.”

All I see is bad posture.

    • Jacob Bowen

Wow, Emma. Way to ruin 2 tops that COULD be perfection (wondering if it would look better buttoned?). I really LOVE that vest with a simple top and a bit of fitting it would have been very appropriate for this less formal occasion.

      • gabbilevy

The unbuttonedness seems to be the issue here.

        • kmk05

Definitely seconding that! But the buttoning may have screwed up the lines of the top underneath, to which I say ‘PLAIN TOP UNDERNEATH A STAR TREK UNIFORM YOUNG LADY’.

    • rockin robin

This really went sideways when she paired a tricky blouse with a tricky vest. Pick one.

    • MilaXX

She’s totally not selling this and alas, the footwear is all wrong.

      • kimmeister

The only person I’ve ever seen who can pull off those reverse diagonal straps is Emma Roberts. Wrong Emma here.

    • sienna elm

GTNYV? Although I think it could be really neat on someone like Tilda.

      • gabbilevy

That’s because everything looks neat on Tilda.

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Wow does she ever hate this outfit. Not even trying to hide it.

      • demidaemon

        Can’t really blame her.

    • jw_ny

A sleeved top was needed under the grey vest. It just looks awkward with so many layers on the body and nothing on the arms.
      She does not look happy….

      • Rhonda Shore

who could blame her? It’s a ridiculous outfit.

    • deelup

Love the vest. Hate the rest.

    • Jaeda Laurez

I love that vest. I hate that shirt underneath it. She looks like she knows it’s TURRIBLE too.

    • Anna

“Fuck off, I have a catering shift on the Enterprise right after Earth Hour, OK??!!”

      • 3boysful

We think alike. I was wondering why anyone would want to own or even wear a vest that gives off that vibe.

    • MartyBellerMask

I think her reaction is based on the event more than the outfit. All though both are ridiculous.

    • Danielle

      I know that feel, Ems.

    • cleva1

Why would you wear the top opened like that? Really ruins it, I think.

    • Alyssa

I love the vest, but agree it needed a simpler blouse underneath and also that it needed to be buttoned! Great hair/makeup though.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

It doesn’t fit. The weird gray thing is closed on the model and open on Emma in an “I can’t close this” way.

    • Lilithcat

That jacket needs to be buttoned to really show off the lines. Of course one would not then see that blouse, which belongs nowhere near that jacket! Both really interesting, but they are fighting each other. One’s body should not be a fashion wrestling ring.

    • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

      That’s a Tilda Swinton outfit.

    • KinoEye

Makeup and hair are fab — that shade of red is to die for — and I almost like the too-tricky outfit. At least it’s something different.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Send that to Zosia Mamet. Her weirdness might actually work with that ugly-ass outfit.

    • ashtangajunkie

The jacket OR the top, lady. Not both. Great hair though.

    • Janet B

That vest is not for mere mortals.

    • http://batman-news.com boweryboy

That vest thing is terrible. I get the mid-century modern space age vibe it’s trying to convey in the look book, but it fails miserably.

I don’t understand. If you’re a ladystar and you’re really that uncomfortable wearing something your stylist suggested couldn’t you just say no? I mean, you’re the one paying the stylist’s salary and you’re the one who will be photographed wearing these get-ups.

And if it’s a matter of contractual obligation to the designer there’s hundreds of other much more flattering articles of clothing to choose from.

      • demidaemon

I figure this may be the result of choosing the lesser of two evils provided by her stylist and not having time for said stylist to go and pull more stuff. That said, the stylist should have done a better job in the first place.

    • kt

She needed to button the vest, top it with a big necklace and wear all black underneath

    • Mrs. C

      Myrtle Snow would not approve.

    • Gatto Nero

The drama of the big lapel and shoulder treatment works on the model because it needs slicked back hair, minimal makeup and a simpler getup underneath.
Her outfit is too tricky, and the beachy hair doesn’t go.

    • Kent Roby

They misprinted the “WTF” under the bear in the background.

    • Shawn EH

I like the jacket and the color scheme, but not the rest. Should have gone beatnik/Audrey Hepburn with this one, which she has the body for.

    • MerBearStare

I never noticed until right now how much Emma Stone looks like a younger Julie Cooper from the OC.

    • decormaven

Button that vest, young lady! Also find some fierce footwear. This is gonna be one long poledance.

    • marlie

The vest with a really simple shirt underneath it could have been a great look. But the black & white top has too much going on and competes with the vest.

    • VicD

She actually wears those bizarre clothes fairly well, but … why?????

    • Susan Carson

yep. she is not at all happy with this vest/ top combo. one or the other.

    • unbornfawn

That grey jacket is really cool. The way it is layered makes the outfit look like it is designed by a first year fashion student.

    • Kitten Mittons

I think I’m in much too good a mood this morning. I keep liking everything, even when I know I shouldn’t. But donuts and fresh fruit, and having an impossibly adorable outfit to start the week in will do that to you .

Wish she’d buttoned it, and put on a simple black skirt. Other than that, I like the complexity of it. I just wish she’d sell it a little better.

    • http://www.alisarivera.com/ Alisa Rivera

You are an actress and presumably being paid a lot to wear this outfit. Can’t you try to sell it, even a little bit? Maybe take a little inspiration from JLo who sells the shit out of every red carpet even when she’s wearing completely ludicrous outfits.

      • Fuchsiaforever

        good point

      • demidaemon

Some people just don’t fake it as well as they could. Even actresses apparently, who make their living on faking it.

    • judybrowni

Who is talking you into this outfits, sweetie?

      Fire ’em.

Your prettiness almost overcomes the stuff thrown on you, but that superpower should be used for good… clothing.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Is it that she’s jet lagged, baked or half in the bag? Can’t tell.

      • lobsterlen

I am going with all of the above.

    • Fuchsiaforever

YOU CAN’T ALWAYS WEAR WHAT YOU WANT…You can’t always get WEAR you want…You can’t always WEAR what you want…But if you try sometimes well you might find…You WEAR what you need…Ummmm, NO. This is too much vest for her petite-ness. PLUS this vest needs a simpler top underneath. She just looks ready to step onto the set of Star Trek or the Jetsons! On the bright side, at least she’s not Little Orphan Annie by Tim Burton/Collen Atwood colab anymore…

    • mrspotts66

it would look so much better if the outer jacket-thing was buttoned.

    • Clash D

HAHA at the side view. Does it open up like a parachute? This would be great for BASE jumping.

    • demidaemon

Exact call on the body language. “I knew this was the wrong choice, but I didn’t want to wear anything that great to this thing. Yeah.”

    • altissima

I have a fabulous cream coloured body suit back in the early nighties. Only problem was, the press-fasteners under the crotch would spontaneously pop open and the half gusset would flap out of my pants, leaving me looking just like this.
