When we submitted our list to our Cosmo editor for the best and worst looks of the night, we added “BEYONCE?????” at the bottom, because at the time, the co-chair had not deigned to arrive yet and we had no idea where her look was going to land on the scale of best to worst. Actually, that’s not entirely true. When the queen arrived in high queen style, we can’t exactly say we were surprised to see it.

Nor can we say we were surprised to see that, like her co-chair Nicole Kidman, she opted for a Mommy & Me moment with daughter Blue Ivy Carter. We like that they’re in distinct looks that feel coordinated.

This is a gorgeously regal design that couldn’t possibly suit her any better. It’s giving Queen of the Dead voodoo goddess and how could that be anything but perfect for Beyonce? The feather cape absolutely makes the look. As for the gown, we have to admit that it comes off a little awkward when she’s moving and the lining or beading isn’t quite sitting where they’re supposed to sit. That tends to be a problem with these more costume-oriented looks. They’re for one pose only and anything else reduces the impact.

The Beyonce jumped out. We love that she was all “Mom, you can go ahead and do your little skeleton dress, but I’m gonna show up looking pretty.” Not to be mean, but we’ve been covering Bey for a long while now and this girl just outdid probably ninety percent of her mother’s red carpet history. This is chic and really well-styled. Love the jacket, love the shoes.
