Project Hail Mary star Ryan Gosling stopped by the Tonight Show to chat about his new movie and unveil his new, more serious promo style.

He used to dress in pastel suits with white piping, which was fun for a time, but it got a little old. Perhaps we hurt his feelings when we said he was starting to look like an upscale ice cream salesman, which then prompted this more serious course correction. Or maybe he just got tired of the old look. Either way, we’re not opposed to this direction for him, even though we routinely wave guys away from defaulting to blacks and grays all the time. Sure, this doesn’t exactly pop on screen, but that’s a legitimately gorgeous blazer. The rest of the look feels like a bit of an afterthought, but we suppose it’s a good idea to let that jacket do all the talking. You wouldn’t want to distract from that with a bright red shirt or whatever. We go back and forth on the brass buttons. They’re fine on the cuffs, but the other ones are kind of focus-pulling.
