King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia, Princess Ariane, Princess Alexia
The whole Dutch royal family came out in high royal style for Prinsjesdag, which is the monarch’s annual address to open the parliamentary year. Big hats and big dresses were on the menu.
Queen Máxima in Jantaminiau
The Queen has worn this dress before, but not with that massive hat. The dress has a lovely drape, although we’re not crazy about the color and it seems like an odd choice for an occasion where you have to sport regalia. The hat doesn’t match, of course. We don’t particularly like the style, but we recognize it as more of a ceremonial sort of thing. It’s an official occasion and since crowns are considered too showy in the 21st Century, big hats are how you signal you’re a bigtime lady person.
Princess Ariane in Victoria Beckham
It is a little odd to see them in such formalwear for a day occasion, but like we said, things are different for royals on official business. This is lovely dress in a fantastic color and it would look so much better without the hat or gloves.
Princess Alexia in Solace London
We give her a lot of credit for picking that cuff, because it does a lot to give her dress some modernity. It’s a lovely dress, but it’s not exactly youthful, so a princess has got make smart accessorizing choices. Again, it would be better without the gloves.
Princess Amalia in Taller Marmo
Again: lovely, formal, extremely royal in style. It’s not trendy and we don’t think it suits her all that well, but it’s work clothes. Love the jewelry.
