Carrie Coon came to the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the third season of The Gilded Age in the kind of edgy, modern dress that announces loudly and definitively that she is not her corseted and bustled character. You should be warned about two things: It’s a lot, and also, we’re going to be forced to make a terrible pun.

Carrie Cocoon, are we right? She’s cracking her chrysalis, people! It’s an interesting design, if a little awkward. The whole situation at the bottom seems unavoidably messy. Having said that, the back view is pretty dramatic and we could see this working with some edits. First, the color story is insipid. A design like this needs stark contrasts and we think a black and white version would be much more interesting. We also tend to think that the hair and makeup needs to be more dramatic than this and the accessorizing should have more impact. Basically: interesting design with potential, but every aspect aside from the shape needs a rethink.
